Our mission statement
Doing business on purpose – as a force for good – for people, planet and profit
Ikigai
Ikigai is a Japanese concept that means “a reason for being.” The word “ikigai” is usually used to indicate the source of value in one’s life or the things that make one’s life worthwhile. The word translated to English roughly means “thing that you live for” or “the reason for which you wake up in the morning.”
Each organisation’s ikigai is personal to them and specific to their mission, values and culture. It reflects the inner self of an organisation and expresses that
faithfully, while simultaneously creating a mental state in which the individual feels at ease. Activities that allow one to feel ikigai are never forced on an organisation; they are often spontaneous, and always undertaken willingly, giving the organisation a sense of satisfaction and meaning to life.

Business Declares
Business On Purpose is proud to be joining Business Declares and the fast-growing network of businesses who acknowledge the Climate and Ecological Emergency.
Our aim is to be net zero by 2030 by reducing our emissions and impact on biodiversity. Concern for both people and the planet are not new to us and we look forward to continuing to share our journey and ensuring our voice is part of the collective, resounding call for change.
We are certainly not claiming to be perfect, neither are we judging others, instead we are part of a coalition of the willing, looking to collaborate and accelerate action while continuing to highlight the challenges and uncomfortable truths.
Human Rights and Modern Slavery
We’re committed to respecting and upholding internationally recognised human rights. We also strongly promote the UN Global Compact and Sustainable Development Goals.
Following the launch of the UN Guiding Principles (UNGPs) Reporting Framework and the UK Parliament passing the Modern Slavery Act (2015) we will report annually on our actions in this area. We continue to review and strengthen our approach to human rights issues.
Company Objects
We envision a global economy that uses business as a force for good. This economy is comprised of a new type of business which is purpose driven and creates benefit for all stakeholders, not just shareholders.
As leaders of this emerging economy we believe that we must be the change we seek in the world. That all business ought to be conducted as if people and planet mattered. That through their products, practices and profits, businesses should aspire to do no harm and benefit all. To do so requires that we act with the understanding that we are each dependent upon one another and thus responsible for each other and future generations.
The company commits to follow the five principles of a purpose driven business developed by blueprint for better business as set out below:
1. Has a purpose which delivers long term sustainable performance
(1) Operates true to a purpose that serves society, respects the dignity of people and so generates a fair return for responsible investors.
(2) Enables and welcomes public scrutiny of the
alignment between stated purpose and actual
performance.
2. Honest and fair with customers and suppliers
(1) Seeks to build lasting relationships with
customers and suppliers.
(2) Deals honestly with customers, providing good and safe products and services.
(3) Treats suppliers fairly, pays promptly what it owes and expects its suppliers to do the same.
(4) Openly shares its knowledge to enable customers and suppliers to make better informed choices.
3. A responsible and responsive employer
(1) Treats everyone with dignity and provides fair pay for all.
(2) Enables and welcomes constructive dialogue about its behaviour in keeping true to its purpose.
(3) Fosters innovation, leadership and personal accountability.
(4) Protects and nurtures all who work for it to
ensure people also learn, contribute and thrive.
4. A good citizen
(1) Considers each person affected by its decisions as if he or she were a member of each decision- maker’s own community.
(2) Seeks and provides access to opportunities for less privileged people.
(3) Makes a full and fair contribution to society by structuring its business and operations to pay promptly all taxes that are properly due.
(4) We will donate a minimum of 5% of annual revenue to charity and good causes
5. A guardian for future generations
(1) Honours its duty to protect the natural world and conserve finite resources.
(2) Contributes knowledge and experience to promote better regulation for the benefit of society as a whole rather than protecting self- interest.
(3) Invests in developing skills, knowledge and understanding in wider society to encourage informed citizenship.
As a business we declare a climate, ecological & planetary emergency and have committed to Net Zero by 2030.
We therefore commit to tell the truth on the climate, ecological and planetary emergency, and to inspire urgent action and debate.
We celebrate and support all the companies who declare and want to inspire others on this path.
We use our influence to engage business leaders who want to understand what it means to declare and we challenge them to set their own targets and actions.
We position ourselves as challengers and urge faster action than the Paris agreement.
UN Sustainable Development Goals
As a company we are fully committed to supporting all UN SDG’s and actively advocate for others to also take action.
