Become a B Corp FAQS

How to become a B Corp
To become a B Corp, an organisation must complete the B Impact certification process and achieve at least 80 out of a possible 200 points. Transparency about the final score is required from the moment certification is achieved.
Points are awarded through the B Impact Assessment (BIA), an online questionnaire that evaluates actions contributing to a positive impact on the Triple Bottom Line the business framework encourages companies to measure and improve their social and environmental impact alongside their financial performance- the standard “bottom line.”
What is a B Impact Assesment BIA?
To become B Corp certified, companies have to complete the B Impact Assessment (BIA), a comprehensive questionnaire that determines a company’s impact on their community, employees, the environment, and beyond.
The BIA measures companies’ social and environmental impact through a deep dive into their internal policies, partnerships, environmental outputs, social contributions, metrics used for tracking impact, and methods employed to ensure that impact is positive.
After completing a wide range of questions, companies generate their B Impact Report that breaks down how they did in each section of the Assessment. At Business On Purpose, we support companies through the process of completing their BIA.
The questions require raw, quantitative data and information to accurately evaluate how your business impacts the world around it, near and far. The BIA is free to use and not exclusive to companies going through the B Corp certification process. However, completing the Assessment does not commit anyone to being reviewed.
This free assessment tool can be used by anyone who wants an impact audit, regardless of whether that means certification or not. B Corp certification represents the highest standards for better business practices across the industry.
The BIA is a great tool to measure and monitor your company’s impact, but it is also outrageously educational. Use it to discover aspects of social and environmental impact you have never considered finding a solution for or maybe haven’t even recognised as a problem.
How can I become B Corp Certified?
Any established for-profit company with at least one year of operation in a region covered by a Global Partner, Country Partner, or Market Builder is eligible to pursue B Corp Certification. There are no restrictions on company size—small startups and large corporations alike can qualify. However, certain businesses, including those under a year old, those with affiliated entities, or large multinational and publicly traded companies, may need to meet additional criteria and requirements.
